[c]<\/a> Mikl\u00f3s R\u00e9vai (1750\u20131807) Piarist monk, linguist. From 1802 he taught Hungarian language and literature at the University of Pest. In the early 1790s he worked on the foundation of a Hungarian scholarly society. He was Istv\u00e1n Sz\u00e9chenyi\u2019s private teacher of drawing and apparently of his mother tongue too. On 27 March 1804, the pupil passed the examination of second grade (grammar form) with an excellent mark. His examiner, the Piarist teacher Imre Szemes, wrote the following in his certificate of achievement: \u201cLinguam Hungaricam ut pote sibi domesticam callet\u201d. (He speaks Hungarian as his mother tongue.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
