Euer Gnaden, Liebster Bester Vater!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je mehr die Zeit der Entscheidung naht, desto r\u00e4thselhafter scheint die Zukunft vor unsern Augen zu liegen, doch in wenigen Wochen wird man das gewi\u00df wissen, was man jetzt zu erforschen vergebens trachten w\u00fcrde. \u2014 Sonderbar ist es, man mu\u00df es gestehen, da\u00df man beynahe gar nicht combiniren kann ob den Krieg[b]<\/a> \u2013 ob Friede von dem Schicksal der Zeit uns bestimmt sey. Ich wei\u00df gar nichts, und sehe eben so viele preparativen des kriegerischen Lebens \u2014 als friedliche Operationen<\/em>.1<\/sup>[c]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Der Waffenstillstand ist denn endlich prolongirt, der Congress in Prag entschieden. Schon ist Narbonne[d]<\/a> da \u2013 und f\u00e4hrt morgen nach Brandeis[e]<\/a> zum K\u00e4yser[f]<\/a> wo er sich einige T\u00e4ge wahr aufhalten wird \u2013 Sonst ist noch gar kein Abgesandter in Prag angekommen. \u2014 General Kutsera<\/em>1<\/sup>[g]<\/a> ist vor 9 oder 10 Tagen nach Ofen zum Palatin, um die ungarische adeliche Insurrection in der gr\u00f6\u00dften Geschwindigkeit zu organisiren \u2013 Die Landwehr wird mit Macht errichtet \u2013 und ihre Stabsoficiers gew\u00e4hlt.[h]<\/a> \u2014 Auch sind alle Chargen in der Armee ersetzt \u2013 Bey Merveld-Uhlanen sind bereits 2 Oberlieutenants zu[2]<\/a> Rittmeisters avancirt \u2013 ich bin nun der 2te<\/sup> zum Rittmeister \u2013 und da eben so viele Escadrons commandanten wechkommen[3]<\/a> werden, so hoffe ich in sehr geringer Zeit zu avanciren \u2014 Die\u00df alles w\u00e4re also Kenntzeichen des kriegerischen Lebens \u2013 ~ Nach meiner Beurtheilung ist aber alles die\u00df zum Scheine nur<\/em>[4]<\/a> und nach dem alten Sprichwort der R\u00f6mer \u201eSi vis pacem para bellum<\/em>1,<\/sup>[5]<\/a> \u2013 Die Folge wird\u2019s wohl bald zeigen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

F\u00fcrst Schwarzenberg ist nun seit einigen Tagen immer hier, Die F\u00fcrstin seine Frau[i]<\/a> ~ war auch da \u2013 ist aber wieder bereits zu sich nach Worlik<\/em>[6]<\/a>[j]<\/a> zuruck. ~ Ich befinde mich \u00fcbrigens recht gut, und wohne \u2013 eine halbe Stunde von Prag<\/em>1<\/sup> \u2013 und eben so viel \u2013 von Lieben<\/em>6<\/sup> in einen einschichtigen Haus, in der sch\u00f6nsten Gegend die man sich nur immer denken kann \u2013 en Compagnie von jungen Lichnowsk\u00ff[k]<\/a> \u2014 und den Grafen Schulenburg[l]<\/a> \u2014 Meine Pferde befinden sich alle in besten Zustand \u2013 wie auch meine Leute, ich selbst auch \u2014 Der F\u00fcrst[m]<\/a> hat \u00fcberaus viele Gnaden f\u00fcr mich \u2014 wie auch meine Vorgesetzten \u2014 und meine Kameraden recht viele Freundschaft \u2014 und so bin ich so zufrieden \u2014 wie man\u2019s nur immer seyn kann. \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir gehen recht oft nach Prag \u2013 wo\u2019s aber unendlich ennuent[7]<\/a> ist \u2014 und auser der Gr\u00e4fin Klebelsberg[n]<\/a> beynahe kein Mensch da.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lieben ist aber ganz allerliebst und gleicht einer Colonie \u2014 da jeder so zu sagen ein kleines Shl\u00f6\u00dfel f\u00fcr sich bewohnt was von denen \u00fcbrigen blos durch kleine W\u00e4lder, G\u00e4rten oder Th\u00e4ler getheilt wird \u2014 In der Fr\u00fch geht jeder seinen Dienst nach \u2013 der f\u00fcr den Augenblick ganz unbedeutend ist \u2014 zu Mittag \u2013 ist nat\u00fcrlicher = Weise<\/em>1<\/sup> ein sehr ein angenehmes rendez-vous \u2014 \u2012 den[8]<\/a> was so ein Galopin f\u00fcr einen Hunger hat, davon macht keine Seele einen Begriff \u2014 Nachmittag ist meistens Musik<\/em>6<\/sup> und auch oft eine Parthie Vist<\/em>6<\/sup>[o]<\/a> \u2013 und so \u2013 vergeht mir ein Nachmittag nach den andern \u2013 eben so angenehm, wie der Morgen \u2013 Blos mit den soup\u00e9e da ist das Schicksal grausam \u2014 und die Vorsicht schuf f\u00fcr uns kein h\u00f4tel \u2014 mais il faut faire bonne mine \u0101 movais jeu[9]<\/a> \u2013 und so habe ich mir das soupiren \u2014 als eine sehr \u00fcble Gewohnheit \u2014 und aus einer Philosophie \u2014 durch die Nothwendigkeit \u2013 versch\u00f6nert \u2014\u2014 ganz tapfer abgew\u00f6hnt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Von meinen ehmaligen Obristlieutenant[p]<\/a> habe ich Nachricht \u2013 und er befindet sich recht gut \u2013 er steht mit seinem Regiment in B\u00f6hmisch-Laipa<\/em>6<\/sup>[q]<\/a> und ist Brigadir zu gleich \u2014 da der Klebelsberg in T\u00f6plitz[r]<\/a> das Bad braucht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Von Nesselrode[s]<\/a> h\u00f6re ich gar nichts; und schrieb an F. M. L.[10]<\/a> Walmoden[t]<\/a> bey den er seyn soll, um etwas von ihm zu erfahren \u2014 Wie mich aber diese Ungewi\u00dfheit kr\u00e4nkt \u2013 ob er lebe \u2013 oder schon in der Eweigkeit sey \u2013 k\u00f6nnen sich Euer Gnaden, Lieber Vater, wohl denken \u2014 Es ist wohl vieleicht. der einzige Freund den ich auf dieser Welt hatte \u2013 \u2012 doch ist alles so Verg\u00e4nglich da\u00df man auf das Vergangene mit Schaudern nur denken kann \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the request of Ferenc Sz\u00e9ch\u00e9nyi, the War Council appointed Istv\u00e1n Sz\u00e9chenyi, Lieutenant of the 1st Merveldt Lancer Regiment, as a commanding officer in the general staff of the general commander by decree of 20 May. Sz\u00e9chenyi reported for duty in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Austria\u2019s suggestion, an armistice was concluded at Pl\u00e4switz on 4 June until 20 July. Austria, however, concluded a treaty with France on 30 June, committing itself to mediate peace. Napoleon accepted it. It was agreed that the Russian, Prussian, French and Austrian plenipotentiaries would meet at the Congress of Prague on 5 July to negotiate a peace proposal, and the armistice was extended until 10 August, with six days\u2019 notice. The Congress of Prague did not meet until 12 July, but the peace terms were not negotiated. Austria communicated the peace terms to Napoleon before the deadline, but having received no reply by the deadline (10 August), it joined the alliance and declared war on France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is impossible to decide whether war or peace will follow. The armistice has been declared, the Prague Congress has been called. 9-10 days ago, General Kutsera travelled to Buda to see the palatine in order to organise the Hungarian noble insurrection with the greatest haste. The vacant officer posts in the army are also being filled one by one. Two first lieutenants have already been promoted to the rank of captain among the Merveldt lancers, and he was the second candidate in the ranking for the captaincy, which he has good prospects of obtaining, as many company commanders have recently left them. The Prince, his superiors and his comrades like him, and he is pleased. They often go to Prague, but life there is now infinitely bleak, and there is no one to visit except Countess Klebelsberg. The days are pleasant in Lieben. In the mornings everyone goes on duty, in the evenings they play music or whist. His brother-in-law is well, he is stationed with his regiment at B\u00f6misch-Leipa, and is now the actual regimental commander, and Klebelsberg is taking baths at Teplitz.
