Mein lieber guter Vater, endlich habe ich gl\u00fccklich alle meine Besuche geendigt \u2014 bei Gott eine sehr schwere Aufgabe \u2014 Schwarzenberg[a]<\/a> \u2013 Metternich,[b]<\/a> sind so besch\u00e4ftiget \u2013 und so sehr besucht \u2013 da\u00df man sich ganz gl\u00fccklich sch\u00e4tzen kann, wenn man nach mehrmaligen Versuchen \u2013 bei ihnen vorkommen kann \u2014 Sie waren recht gn\u00e4dig \u2014 das ist alles was ich sagen kann von avancieren ist gar keine Idee \u2013 der Kayser schl\u00e4gt sogar lieutenants-stellen ab \u2013 und somit Geduld und Rittmeister.[c]<\/a> Da nun aber Schwarzenbergs ganze suite nach dem enuenten manoeuvre in Dijon[d]<\/a> auseinander gehen wird \u2013 und ich wie ein Narr auch nicht zum Regiment einr\u00fccken will \u2014 da mich diese miserabilit\u00e4t anekelt \u2014 so bath ich Schwarzenberg mir einen Urlaub zu geben \u2014 und gehe hiemit en titre de Voyageur[2]<\/a> in einigen Tagen mit Moritz Woyna[e]<\/a> nach England \u2013 er hat auch beinahe eine eben so r\u00fchmliche Ursache nach der Insel zu segeln wie ich \u2013 er bringt einen Grenadier und einen Uhlanen zu Prinz Regenten,[f]<\/a> um sie vorzustellen. ~ ich hab\u2018 das project diese Kerl\u2019s um\u2019s Geld daselbst ansehen zu lassen \u2013 \u2013 \u00fcbrigens nehme ich von Radetzk\u04f1[g]<\/a> die Tabelle des Regiments mit \u2014 und besuch ganz einfach meinen brittischen proprietair[3]<\/a> \u2013 \u2013 Wie lang ich dan da bleiben werde, das weis[4]<\/a> ich gar nicht \u2014 und was dan mit mir geschieht \u2013 das ahnde ich gar nicht \u2014 und so lebe ich ganz allein in der Tendenz fort \u2014 mich in jeden Fach geschickt zu machen \u2013 meinem Vaterlande dienen zu k\u00f6nnen \u2014 Will das Gl\u00fcck mir nicht gut \u2014 so bin ich doch mit meinem Gewi\u00dfen, und mit meinem h\u00f6chsten Richter vers\u00f6hnt \u2014 und kann dan ruhig die Fortuna an mir vorbei ziehen sehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sehr lang werde ich vermuthlich nicht ausbleibe[n, \u2013 da ich][5]<\/a> bis jetzt schon sehr viel Geld ausgegeben [habe und\u2013]5<\/sup> der Article mir dan sehr bald fehlen d\u00fcrfte. Von der Theurung macht man sich gar keinen Begriff da sich wirklich das ganze Geschlecht der Menschen wie ein Babel angeh\u00e4uft hat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[b]<\/a> Prince Klemens Wenzel Lothar von Metternich (1773\u20131859) was an Austrian statesman, Foreign Minister of Austria from 1809, chancellor of state (1821\u20131848) and a leading figure in Austrian politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sz\u00e9chenyi named him Prince Regent because he exercised the rights of monarch as regent from 1810 in place of his father George III (1738\u20131820, King of Great Britain and Ireland: 1760\u20131820). The English regent held the rank of Austrian field marshal and was a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece, furthermore, he was the owner of the 5th Hussars Regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[g]<\/a> Count Joseph Wenzel Radetzky (1766\u20131858), lieutenant general, after the Battle of Aspern he became commander of the 4th Corps. He was the co-owner of the 5th Hussars Regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[h]<\/a> Jacques Laffitte (1767\u20131844) was a French banker and politician, Perr\u00e9gaux\u2019s banking partner and successor after his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schwarzenberg and Metternich are so busy you can hardly get in to see them. He was received graciously; there was no question of promotion, the Emperor even refused to appoint lieutenants. Schwarzenberg’s camp will be disbanded with the Dijon operation, and he is leaving for England in a few days\u2019 time in the company of Moritz Woyna. Woyna has to present a grenadier and an ulan to the Prince Regent. He will ask Radetzky for the regiment’s roster of officers and at the same time introduce himself to the British owner of his regiment. Not knowing how long he will remain in England, or what he will do when he returns, his only ambition is find his feet and serve his country in every situation. He will probably not stay abroad for long, as he has already spent too much.
