Er sagt das \u201eOhngef\u00e4hr<\/em>[1]<\/u><\/a> f\u00fcnftausend ducaten<\/em>\u201c[2]<\/a> aus der Ursache weil es in andern Geld Sorten berechnet werden mu\u00df, wenn ich nicht gar zu gro\u00dfe procenten verlieren soll. Ich glaube indessen, da\u00df Sie keine Schwierigkeit machen sollten es zu unterfertigen, da es seiner Seits doch nichts als eine Vorsichtsma\u00dfregel ist, die man keinem Menschen \u00dcbel nehmen kann.[c]<\/a> ~~<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[a]<\/a> The letters written by Sz\u00e9chenyi during his journey to the East were collected in a separate unit in the family archives. Iv\u00e1n Paur, the archivist of the Sz\u00e9chenyi family, gave the collection, which once contained 53 letters, now 37, the title \u201cCount Istv\u00e1n Sz\u00e9chenyi\u2019s 53 letters from Turkey and Greece\u201d. On the outer leaf of the first item of the letter bundle, i.e. on the outside of the present letter, Ferenc Sz\u00e9ch\u00e9nyi wrote \u201cStephis Credit Brief v 5000 #\u201d. To this Paur later added \u201cLetter from Count Istv\u00e1n Sz\u00e9ch\u00e9nyi to his father, Count Ferenc Sz\u00e9ch\u00e9nyi, about a bond of 5,000 gold pieces to be issued at Arnstein & Eskeles for the costs of his planned journey to Italy, the issued and cashed bond attached. Original without date (Vienna, July 1818).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[b]<\/a> Baron Nathan Adam Arnstein (1748\u20131838) Viennese banker. In 1805, together with banker Bernhard von Eskeles, he founded the banking house Arnstein & Eskeles, which was the dominant financial institution in Austria for three decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[c]<\/a> The Viennese banking house Arnstein & Eskeles, which financed Sz\u00e9chenyi\u2019s travels to the East, was only willing to advance the 5,000 ducats requested for this purpose on condition that Ferenc Sz\u00e9ch\u00e9nyi sign the promissory note, issued by Sz\u00e9chenyi, as a guarantor. The annexes are not enclosed with the letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arnstein has sent him a sheet to have signed by his father, 500 ducats to be settled in other countries’ currencies.
