In 1825, Count György Andrássy followed Széchenyi in founding the Academy with one of the largest endowments of 10,000 forints, where he also became a member of the Board of Directors. In 1832, they travelled together to England on a study trip on the bridge and together they wrote the bridge report for the Parliament. He was an active participant in Széchenyi’s social and economic initiatives: the crossbeams of the Chain Bridge came from his ironworks in Derna (Bihor County). During the authoritarian regime, he was active in public life around the revival of the Academy.
