[3] Neumann
[a] Baron Philipp von Neumann (1781–1851) was an Austrian diplomat, who began his career in Venice and Paris, and later served as secretary of the Austrian embassy in London during the embassy of Prince Pál Esterházy (1815–1842). For his services he was made a baron in 1830.
[b] The secretary and Széchenyi got into an argument at the ball of Countess Lieven. Széchenyi felt he was not worthy of a lecture, so he challenged the diplomat to a duel. For more on the incident, see SzIN 1. 155–158.
