A levelet Széchenyi közeli barátja, Waldstein János kézbesíti. Széchenyi bevallja, hogy irigyeli Waldstein angliai útját, hiszen ő maga annyira elfoglalt, hogy elképzelni sem tudja, mikor tud legközelebb Angliába látogatni és személyesen is megköszönni, hogy Bellenden Ker és Lord Brougham a Társaság levelező tagságára jelölte őt.
Széchenyi beharangozza egy hivatalos levél érkezését, amelyben a Magyar Tudós Társaság formálisan megköszöni majd a munkákat, amiket az angol Állami Levéltár megbízottjai Bellenden Ker közbenjárására küldtek könyvtáruknak.

Allow me to introduce to you and to MrsKer a most intimate friend of mine Count John Waldstein,[b] an hungarian nobleman, who will have the pleasure of presenting this letter. I envy him very much for it – the more so, as I am so overwhelmed with business in our country, that I cannot even tell when I shall be able to visit old England again and to give personally my warmest thanks for the great honor which the Society for the Diffusion of useful knowledge[c] have done me in electing me a corresponding member, upon your and Lord Broughams’s[d] nomination. I am indeed at a loss how to apologize for answering your most obliging letter at such a late hour. Please to attribute this long delay merely to circumstances, and to accept my sincerest thanks for all your kind favors done both to me and to our country. A formal acknowledgement of the Hungarian Literary Society for the works sent to their Library by the Commissioners of public records upon your kind interposition will be forwarded on the part of the Society in an officional way.
Count John Waldstein will tell you more, and among others, something of the results of our Diet, closed the 2nd May.
