Széchenyi megköszöni Wattnak, hogy az legutóbbi levelében sok sikert kívánt neki és egyúttal emlékezteti is, hogy ez a siker nagyrészt, sőt, talán teljesen a Wattól rendelt gőzgépek minél gyorsabb szállításán múlik. Watt legutóbbi levelében két hetes késést jelzett, a késés Széchenyi szerint a vállalkozás bukását jelentheti. Legutóbbi Wattnál tett látogatása után még azzal nyugtatta magát, hogy akár saját hajót is szerezhet, amellyel elszállíthatja a két 35 és egy 10 lóerős gőzgépet, a kotrószerkezetet, darut, tömböket és egyéb dolgokat, amelyek május elején érkeznek majd Londonba. Thomas Wilsont kérte meg a szállítás lebonyolítására. Ezt a tervet semmisíti meg a jelzett késés. Széchenyi Wattra bízza a gőzgép további sorsát, mivel bokros teendői miatt a levélírást követő napokban el kell hagynia Angliát. Szeretné, hogy együtt érkezzenek meg a 10 és 35 lóerős gőzgépek, és kéri, hogy ezeket május első napjaiban Watt egyszerre küldje Londonba. Széchenyi a Batavia nevű hajóra csak április 12-én száll fel, és aznap este a sussexi herceg vacsorája után még ellátogat a Trafalgar hotelbe. Reméli, hogy itt elcsípi majd Wattot, aki legutóbbi levele szerint aznap várható a szállodába.

In aknowledgement of Yours on date 7th April 1834[b] I do myself the honour to offer You my kindest thanks for Your wish as to the succes[1] of all my speculations.” — But dear Sir, they depend a great deal ‒ if not entirely ‒ on the prompt delivery of Your Engines. You say “They will be done nearly[2] within the time agreed upon. But this nearly2 will as I understand by Your letter be not less, than a fortnight, which certainly is a very small difference, and in general2 not worth mentioning, but not so in my undertaking, where every thing depends on the right moment; so that this little word “nearly”2 may occasion the failure, of all my pains and fatigues entirely.2
But I shall not feare You any longer with my lamentations . .[3] as to the loss of a fortnight … it is again the probable delay of the ten horse Dredging Engine, mentioned by You, – which gives a new Blow – to all my arrangements.
Leaving Ashton Hall[c] I had some pain to make my mind up, to see without great discomfort the probability of the whole failure of my enterprise – but at last I comforted me with the Thought that I shall perhaps make up the time lost by a Vessel, which I would take quite for me and make a full Cargo of the two 35 and one 10 horse steam Engines and than the Dredging Apparatus and some other things, as, Cranes, bloks &; which all will be delivered in London in the beginning of May. —
Coming to town I gave Orders to Mr[4] Th. Wilson[d] as to the shippment of all the said articles; but Your last letter, which by the by I showd to Mr4 Clark[e] & Brown[f] and Hunter,[g] deranges all this plans, so that now on the eve of my departure pressed by an accumulation of businesses and disappointed even in my last hope, to make up some way or other the loss of time. I can not do any thing but to recommend to Your best care the Dredging Engine as well as the other.
If the sending of the two 35 was to be stopped by the ten horse Engine, I would call this a real misfortune…,3 and I would feel equally vexed, if the two 35 were to go without the 10 horse engine, so, that there is but one way to get out of this Dilemma, viz: to send them to London at once, in the first days of May.
I shall go on board of the Batavien only the 12 of April, and take my chance after a dinner of the Duke of Sussex[h] to see You at the Trafalgar hotel, which – according to Your letter – You will perhaps reach on the same day.
Allow me to thank You once more for Your kind reception in Ashton Hall and believe me Your obedient Servant.
