Sajnálattal közli, hogy az általános hídvám bevezetése késik, bár már mindkét országgyűlési ház elfogadta. Néhány hónapon belül valószínűleg megvalósul, s ez majdnem 20000 font bevételt jelent majd, ami elegendő tőke lesz a híd megépítéséhez. Említi, hogy nem sokkal Pest felett kiváló fajtájú gránit található a Duna-parton, ami a kitermelés költségén túl ingyen felhasználható. Arra kéri, hogy addig is küldjön neki két ugyanolyan súlyozott vas hengert Triesztbe, mint előző évben. Van még egy kérése: Clark korábban tervezett neki egy gyönyörű verandát, aminek a tervrajzát Széchenyi kölcsönadta Metternich hercegnőnek, aki elveszítette azt. Széchényi arra kéri Clarkot, hogy minél hamarabb küldjön meg egy új rajzot, és emlékeztetőül mellékel egy általa készített vázlatot is. A számlát Rothschildnek állítsa ki, válaszlevelét pedig Schuller és Társának címezze.

I am sorry to say – the principle of general[2] payment[3]1 on2 the intended bridge between Buda & Pest —[4] though carried in both the1 houses of our diet, is not yet enacted[5] –, but it1 will2 be most probably in a few months; Which would create a pretty sure income of1 nearly2 20,000 £ a year – and1 afford2 in this way a sufficient interest – – – and1 the paying2 of the capital required to erect3 a noble Bridge — and so much the more – as there1 are no2 horses[6] on the abutments to be6 pulled down2 and to be2 payed for – – the stones —- a fine specimen of granit (quite on the shores of the Danube a few miles above Pesth)5– for nothing —1 than2 the trouble to take them – and so on.
Before this business will be settled, I’ll2 ask you..[7]1 the favor – to1 cause1 two iron2 rollers —1 to2 be sent1 for me to Trieste exactly of the same size[8] as You had the kindness to send me one2 last year. There is a weight3 in the inside of it – which1 makes2 it3 easier to roll3 – and it2 was very much admired here. The two new2 rollers,[9] the sending of which I ask of you4,5 ought to be1 of2 the same description and the best possible workmanship.
There is an1 other2 misfortune happened to me. You had the kindness to1 make2 me a very nice drawing of an open-green-painted double1 Veranda.2 It was uncommonly pretty. I had2 shown it to Pr.[10] Mett.[c]Who kept it….7 on purpose to get one made after the drawing; – but she forgot it — and the drawing is not to be found. As there is no body who can repair this great loss — except1 but you2 be so kind as2 to send me another copy — or if you should not be in possession of its outlines – to1 sketch2 me another. Viz.[11]
You will2 be so kind ….7 to send the bill to Mr Rothschild[d] – who will pay it – –1 on2 showing him this letter. – but the principal thing is – not to postpone this drawing as I am very much in want of1 it2 — and to send the rollers as soon as possible. Write me a few times if you please1 adressed to the cares of2 Mr Schuller & Co[e] at Vienna.
